As a CAD Engineer for CADdraught Ltd, Aston Science Park, Birmingham, I served my 'apprenticeship' as a CAD engineer, solving new engineering design problems on the bulleted contracts below:

  • Amchem Ltd – aerospace EDM tooling & fixtures. From March ‘99 I interpreted complex Rolls Royce drawings defining jet engine blades. Using 3D AutoCAD, I designed and detailed fixtures for locating individual blades using ‘RR’ 3D co-ordinates for accurate EDM ‘drilling’ of cooling holes.
  • Mechatherm International Ltd., Kingswinford - industrial ovens, conveyors, ‘special purpose machinery’. Detailing ‘ageing oven conveyor’ parts for an aluminium extrusion plant.
  • Parkwood Mellowes - commercial window systems. First experience of the glazing with Technal steel sections for a residential development in London. (2 months)
  • Sir Alexander Gibb Ltd. - Civil Engineers. 6-month contract included drawings of drainage and culvert types with calcs & adjustments to 20km of road layouts & boundaries on A74(M), Scotland.
  • CAD Draughtsman at Ralegh Cutting Formes, Wolverhampton. I rapidly learned the programming for cardboard carton cutting tools. Elementary design work but good for six months.
  • MTM~X Analyst at Avery Berkel Weighing, Foundry Lane, Birmingham. 8-week contract, I used MTM-X techniques on batch production of electronic scales - Production Engineering. (Aug. ‘96 - Oct. ‘96)
