York has been my home for some seventeen years and I share it with my wife Julia and two boys Eugene (12) and Leon (10). Living near one of the nicest cities in the land means I've always had a long commute but it's worth it. I grew up near Edinburgh which is similar in many ways and also a good base to return to.
My BSc degree in Computer Aided Product Design is from Wolverhampton University where I also gained a Post-graduate Certificate in Management in 1996. After my studies, I remained in the heart of the Black Country where my designer career started in Foundry Lane, Smethwick. I found a fabulous variety of work in and around Birmingham as a CAD contractor and strengthened my ability to turn my attention to different technical challenges as set out in the time-line of my résumé. As a self-employed CAD contractor, trading as NUdesign Ltd, I transferred my business to Yorkshire in 2002.
My future wife had drawn me north to Yorkshire where we married in 2003. I developed my design career in building facades starting in curtain walling with HWA in Brighouse in 2004. Here I brought my engineering draughting skills to all aspects of glazed facades and entrance door systems to then take it to the next level at Kawneer in Runcorn. Here I developed my technical knowledge of Unitised Curtain Walling, die and tooling design, thermal modelling for U value calculation and much more. After two and a half years, I took the opportunity to apply this in commercial façade design a bit closer to home in York from where I have always commuted to various employers in and around mainly Yorkshire.
